Session Description:
Clients of all ages struggle with anxiety and trauma, and this interactive workshop explores how the play therapist can use superheroes to empower clients to overcome their issues in fun and healthy ways. The play therapist has an unique opportunity to utilize superheroes in play therapy sessions to support clients across the lifespan. Attendees will explore superhero-themed play therapy interventions to implement in the playroom and beyond. Time will be reviewing superhero narratives and imagery that can be used in the playroom to encourage clients to find their inner superhero!
Learning objectives:
- Describe the use of imaginative play when integrating superheroes in play therapy sessions
- List the therapeutic benefits of integrating superheroes into play therapy
- Utilize directive play therapy techniques that implement superheroes in play therapy with clients across the lifespan
- Apply the use superhero archetypes in play therapy sessions
- Identify ways to integrate superhero play to address trauma in the playroom
- Explain the use of superhero narratives to support clients experiencing trauma
