Training Description:

Nearly 1 million newcomer youth are currently enrolled in schools and school-based play therapists are key in supporting the mental health of these students. This session aims to highlight ways school-based play therapists can implement group play therapy with newcomer students from elementary to high schools. Participants will explore different
play-based interventions to address a variety of stressors in immigrant students including anxiety, depression, PTSD, adjustment and acculturation stress, language barriers, and more.

Learning Objectives 

  1. Apply the therapeutic powers of play in group therapy with newcomer youth in schools.
  2. Explore the use of group play-based interventions to address acculturation stress in Newcomer youth. 
  3. Demonstrate cultural humility with newcomer youth in a group play therapy in schools.
