Training Description:
Nearly 1 million newcomer youth are currently enrolled in schools and school-based play therapists are key in supporting the mental health of these students. This session aims to highlight ways school-based play therapists can implement group play therapy with newcomer students from elementary to high schools. Participants will explore different
play-based interventions to address a variety of stressors in immigrant students including anxiety, depression, PTSD, adjustment and acculturation stress, language barriers, and more.
Learning Objectives
- Apply the therapeutic powers of play in group therapy with newcomer youth in schools.
- Explore the use of group play-based interventions to address acculturation stress in Newcomer youth.
- Demonstrate cultural humility with newcomer youth in a group play therapy in schools.
