Training Description:
Sand tray therapy is an intervention that can be used with clients of all backgrounds in the playroom. It provides a non-verbal medium for clients to work through a variety of issues like trauma, anxiety and grief, in play therapy sessions. This 2-day workshop will provide the play therapist with the foundational knowledge and skill to implement sand tray interventions into their play therapy practice. Time will be spent exploring various theoretical applications to sand tray too including Child Centered Play Therapy, Adlerian play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy and Gestalt Play Therapy. This highly experiential workshop will prepare play therapists to integrate sand tray therapy in a variety of settings including
Learning objectives:
- Discuss the history of sand tray in play therapy
- List categories of sand tray miniatures in the playroom
- Apply cultural inclusivity in play therapy sessions with sand tray therapy
- Discuss ways to implement sand tray therapy when providing mobile play therapy
- Compare the use of sand tray therapy in play therapy sessions with clients at different developmental levels
- Analyze sand tray therapy as a play therapy assessment tool
- Apply sand tray therapy skills in play therapy sessions
- Analyze the application of Adlerian Play Therapy to sand tray therapy
- Utilize Gestalt Play Therapy techniques in sand tray therapy
- Describe the use of Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy in sand tray therapy
- Explain the use of Child Centered Play Therapy in sand tray therapy with young children
- Write play therapy documentation notes for play therapy sessions implementing sand tray therapy
