Session Description:
Caregivers are an integral piece in successful play therapy, which requires a balance of individual and family approaches to maximize play therapy outcomes. This training outlines key points to integrate parents into family play therapy with children of all ages. Participants will explore how to communicate the benefits of play therapy for children's brain and physiological development to caregivers, while also learning how to engage caregivers in the therapeutic process while incorporating theories suitable for family-based play therapy.
Learning objectives:
- Explore the social, emotional, and physiological benefits of play therapy with children
- Demonstrate ways to explain the neurological benefits of play therapy to caregivers
- Explore ways to promote sensory integration in play therapy
- Identify theories to be used with families in play therapy
- Describe play therapy interventions to engage caregivers in family play therapy
- Assess play therapy skills to conduct parent consultation sessions
