Session Description:
Sand tray therapy is often seen as an intervention only with clients in the playroom. However, play therapists can benefit from using a sand tray as a mode of professional engagement and growth beyond the playroom. This workshop will help play therapists integrate sand tray into their personal and professional life, allowing for self-reflection, goal setting and career exploration, as well as processing problematic interactions with colleagues with differing values and beliefs. Sand tray construction and reflection will be used in this highly experiential session, allowing play therapists to learn how sand tray can be used in their daily lives to aid in professional mentorship, support and networking with other play professionals with similar interests.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss journaling with sand trays as a form of self-reflection for play therapists.
- Apply sand tray to career decision-making for play therapists.
- Describe the use of sand tray to build community among play therapists.
- Identify sand tray prompts to use in play therapy professional support groups.
- Analyze sand tray prompts for play therapy mentoring relationships.
