Training Description:

Homicide is currently the leading cause of death for Black youth ages 15-24 years old. There is also an overrepresentation of Black youth in systems such as the juvenile justice and child welfare system. Overall, Black youth are experiencing grief events, which is why play therapists need to pay special attention to their needs in the playroom and beyond. This webinar addresses how the play therapy process can address grief and bereavement in Black youth in individual and group play therapy. Attendees will gain a better understanding of grief themes that may present in the playroom and specific play therapy interventions to address those concerns. Special attention is spent on cultural considerations play therapists should be mindful of when working with Black youth. This webinar will issue 2 APT non-contact webinar CEs.

  3. Describe the use of child-centered play therapy to treat grief & bereavement in Black youth.
