Session Description: 

Engaging adolescents and teens in play therapy can be challenging but is not impossible. This workshop will explore the different historical and seminal play therapy theories including Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy, Adlerian Play Therapy and Gestalt Play Therapy in individual and family therapy sessions with tweens & teens. Participants will learn how to engage these challenging populations in play-based approaches including sand tray, art, music, games and mindfulness play-based interventions. Additionally, attendees will engage in experiential activities to support the mental health of tweens and teens when engaging with social media. Specific information on how to ethically integrate technology into play therapy sessions with tweens and teens will also be explored.

  3. Examine play-based interventions to address adverse childhood events in tweens & teens
