Description:
Sand tray therapy is an intervention that can be used with clients of all backgrounds in the playroom. It provides a non-verbal medium for clients to work through a variety of issues like trauma, anxiety and grief, in play therapy sessions. This workshop will provide the play therapist with the foundational knowledge and skill to implement sand tray interventions into their play therapy practice. Time will be spent exploring sand tray documentation and analyzing categories of sand tray construction. Attendees will also learn how to integrate mobile sand trays into a variety of settings including schools and in-home play therapy sessions.
Learning objectives:
- Discuss the history of sand tray in play therapy.
- List categories of sand tray miniatures in the playroom.
- Apply cultural inclusivity in play therapy sessions with sand tray therapy.
- Discuss ways to implement sand tray therapy when providing mobile play therapy.
- Compare the use of sand tray therapy in play therapy sessions with clients at different developmental levels.
- Analyze sand tray therapy as a play therapy assessment tool.
