Session description:

This training is designed to equip mental health professionals with culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate play therapy interventions to assess and address suicidality in Latino children and adolescents. Participants will deepen their understanding of how cultural values, family dynamics, immigration experiences, and systemic stressors influence the expression of suicidal thoughts in play therapy with Latino youth. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing symptoms, strengthening family engagement, and implementing supportive, trauma-informed play therapy techniques.Ā

  1. Identify culturally influenced warning signs and symptoms of suicidality in Latino children and adolescents within the context of play therapy.Ā 
  2. Apply developmentally appropriate play therapy interventions to assess and respond to suicidal ideation and behaviors.Ā
